Kenyan musical artist Owen Mwatia, popularly known as Daddy Owen, regrets over sharing his personal life publicly.
In an interview with Alex Mwakideu on the YouTube show Alex Mwakideu Live, Daddy Owen described sharing intimate details of his life with the media as one of his biggest regrets.
The musician revealed that the collapse of his first marriage played a major role in his decision to protect his privacy moving forward.
“Because my first marriage collapsed, I have decided to do everything in private,” he said, explaining that he no longer wants his personal life to be public fodder.
He also cited the pressures faced by children of pastors, noting the heavy societal expectations they endure.
“Society judges the pastor’s kid harshly. Because their father is a man of God, they expect the kid to also be a man of God,” Daddy Owen said on Tuesday, August 26.
The artist acknowledged that he had once “opened the door too wide” for the public to know about his life. He expressed admiration for fellow musicians such as Wyre and Redsan, who have successfully maintained privacy, and revealed that he now intends to follow their example.
Reflecting on lessons learned, Daddy Owen said he wished he had heeded his father’s advice earlier in life.
“I wish I had listened to my dad,” he admitted, adding that as a young man, he underestimated the wisdom of the older generation.
Daddy Owen also revealed his regrets about delaying fatherhood.
“I wish I had my kids in my early twenties,” he said, acknowledging that while he is now financially stable, he wishes he had started his family sooner.
The artist’s candid reflections shed light on the often-overlooked pressures faced by public figures, particularly those balancing careers, family and societal expectations.
