
Kenyan celebrated musician Nyamari Ongegu popularly known as Nyashinski, has signed a landmark recording deal with Sony Music, marking a significant milestone both in his career and for Kenyan and East African music as a whole.
Under this new partnership, he has released Tai Chi, his first single of 2025.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Nyashinski described the collaboration as “a product of his choices,” signaling a new chapter in his musical journey.
Sean Watson, Managing Director of Sony Music Africa, praised Nyashinski’s artistry, calling him “a representation of authenticity, versatility, and longevity – everything East Africa has to offer.”

The deal builds on Nyashinski’s long-standing influence in African music. From his early breakthrough with Kleptomaniax to chart-topping solo hits like Mungu Pekee, Properly, Lift Me Up and Free, he has consistently shaped the region’s sound.
His collaborations with stars such as Yemi Alade, Sauti Sol and Chris Kaiga further cement his dominance in East Africa’s music scene.
With over 725,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 1 million Instagram followers, Nyashinski’s influence is undeniable despite his low-key social media presence. Seven of his songs have surpassed 10 million views, with Mungu Pekee alone racking up more than 2.9 million streams on Spotify , a testament to his enduring appeal and dedicated fan base.
Tai Chi, his first release of 2025, blends fresh creative energy with his signature sound, aiming to strengthen his global presence.
As part of the deal, Sony Music will also reintroduce Nyashinski’s classic catalogue to streaming platforms worldwide, opening his timeless hits to a new generation of listeners.
