After a long day at work, all you want to do is head home,
rest, eat, and sleep. You leave your workplace exhausted and famished. If the
hunger is too much to bear, there are vendors selling different foods along your
way home.
They are usually delicious sometimes tastier than homemade meals.
Here are some of the Kenyan foods you will find many savoring on their way home
specifically in the evening.
Roasted maize
Roasted maize is does not only curb hunger but is also ‘exercises’
your mouth testing how strong your teeth are. On an unfortunate day, you may
buy one that is tough to chew giving you two options to continue chewing or
throwing it away.
‘Mutura’
You cannot street foods in Kenya and fail to include mutura. It
as a superb delicacy difficult to find someone roasting it in the morning. This
is an evening ‘snack’. Kenyans have been known to make hilarious comments about
the places it is sold. Some say it is sold in dirty surroundings with poor
lighting and the seller is usually not that clean.
However, that is no always the case. It is essential to eat
food prepared in a hygienic place to prevent developing stomach upsets. There are
mutura vendors who observe high levels of hygiene and provide clean pieces to marvel
your taste buds.
Samosa
There are two options when it samosa those with minced meat stuffing
and others with greengrams. If you prefer samosa containing pepper as an
ingredient, you can always ask for them. Apart from meat and greengrams, some
dealers get creative and use Irish potatoes or cabbage to fill the pockets.

of chewing cabbage when you expected greengrams, for example, is terrible.

vendors place the pack in boiling water before preparing them. They also add
guacamole to give you mouthwatering, addictive smokies that make you buy more.
Kenya has an interesting culture and people. Street foods are
irresistible. All of them are delicious and it is upon you to choose what you feel
like eating.
