12 years have passed since the post-election violence in the
country, and Kenyans are yet to learn the role played by the late businessman
Chris Kirubi in restoring peace.
Speaking on Friday during the memorial service of the fallen
tycoon at Faith Evangelistic Ministry in Karen in Nairobi, ODM leader, and
former Prime Minister Raila Odinga said Kirubi was a key player in the
mediation that led to the grand coalition government.
“Among the two people who approached me to have dialogue
was Chris Kirubi…the other one I cannot reveal,” Raila said.
“Arrangements were made for this meeting in Sagana,
eventually an agreement was reached,” he said.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka also made his testimonials,
saying that the businessman approached him after the bungled presidential
elections in 2007 and told him to rise and save the country and a true leader.
“He came to my house in 2008 with Peter Munga and the
reason was simple, you have to act in a manner that will save our
country.”
“That is how I become the 10th vice President of this
country,” the Wiper leader added.
In the spirit of saving Nairobi City as the country’s
capital, Kirubi plotted the recent move by the government to have Nairobi
County run by the government.
Former Nairobi County Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe
revealed that the magnate executed the agenda.
“It is a good time that I also reveal to you what we
did with Chris. It was his idea that Nairobi goes back to the national
government,” said Igathe.
Igathe also confirmed Mr. Odinga’s sentiments by saying that
Kirubi was the part that sustained the Prime Minister’s roundtable that was
held regularly by the former Premier Odinga during the grand coalition
government.
“He was my mentor, my teacher, and my guide in business
and life,” he added.
Leaders present include, Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and
Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), and former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth.
Kirubi’s burial is set for Saturday at his farm in Thika.
The burial ceremony will begin at 11 am.
Kirubi, 80, died on June 14, 2021, at his home after a long
battle with cancer.
