Two people lost their lives while being attended to at the Nairobi West Hospital. One more death was reported following the incident.

280 people were injured by the fire and rushed to various hospitals. Of the injured persons, 43 were taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital, 14 at Kenyatta University, 157 at Mama Lucy General Hospital, 18 at Modern Komarok Hospital, 21 at Garrison Hospital, 8 at Metropolitan, 8 at Nairobi West Hospital, 2 at Radiant Hospital, 1 at Pendo Hospital, 3 at AAR, and 4 at Nairobi Hospital.

The scene of the inferno was secured and a command center was set up to help coordinate rescue operations and other intervention efforts. Kenyans were advised to keep off the cordoned area to ensure efficient rescue operations.

Mwaura applauded the National Police, Nairobi County Government, the Kenya Red Cross, and St. John’s Ambulance for their quick response to the incident.

He also disclosed that the government would “do everything possible within its means to assist the victims of the fire incident and also to help restore normalcy in the affected area”.

In an earlier statement, the Government Spokesperson stated that the fire broke out at Kentainers Company Ltd near Kabansora in Embakasi. He stated that the company was refilling gas cylinders when the fire broke out, injuring several people.

Kenyans questioned why the facility was in a residential area considering the safety hazard it presents to human lives.
