The government has suspended the construction of a residential building located along Peponi Road in Westlands, Nairobi after it developed cracks.

The National Construction Authority (NCA) said a multi-sectoral team is conducting detailed technical assessments on the high-rise building to determine whether it can be safely salvaged or will require controlled demolition.
This comes after a compliance check by the Authority revealed structural failure in the building located on L.R. No. Nairobi Block/179 Original L.R. No. 1870/11/165.
“The Authority received a report of structural failure at a proposed residential development located along Peponi Road, Westlands, Nairobi on Monday, December 15, 2025… A quality assurance team was immediately dispatched to the site for a compliance check,” the Authority said in a statement.

The said building is designed to have 3 basement levels and 13 suspended floors, and showed signs of structural failure during construction.
“Upon confirmation of the incident, all construction works were immediately suspended, and the site was cordoned off to safeguard the public,” NCA added.

A call for safety
Following the suspension of construction activities at the site, the government has advised neighbouring occupants to vacate the area temporarily as assessments continue.
“As a precautionary safety measure, neighbouring occupants have been alerted and advised to temporarily vacate, pending further technical assessments. The Authority assures the public that public safety remains our highest priority,” NCA added.
NCA elaborated that no further construction activities will be permitted on the site “until the ongoing investigations are concluded and appropriate recommendations implemented”.
It has advised members of the public to keep away from the affected area, adding that further updates will be issued as additional information becomes available.
