NAIROBI, Kenya—Firebrand Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has taken issue with fellow leaders across the political divide, warning them against ignoring young aspirants seeking elective positions.
The youthful MP serving his second term in office urged his colleagues to be at the forefront in nurturing and supporting young aspirants salivating to take up various positions as the country warms up to the forthcoming elections.

“When you see a young man struggling on a bicycle or a donkey, just go and help. Let us uplift the young people in politics. Let us not cheer them on the streets, and when they present themselves on the ballot, you leave them alone,” said MP Amisi.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP made the remarks on Friday, July 17, 2026, when, alongside other young people, he received Timothy Kariuki Kamau, one of the candidates in the just-concluded Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
“We congratulate him (Timothy) for a well-fought campaign and appreciate his audacity to present his maiden candidature as the youngest ever in a highly polarised by-election,” added Amisi.
Why PRM belongs to the young people
Amisi, who is allied to the Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna-led ‘Linda Mwananchi’ political faction, insisted that there was a dire need to cheer the young people on the ballot and not just on the streets.
“Those who normally announce maandamano for young people to be killed – where were you in Ol Kalou to also announce the ballot revolution for the young people to also be on the ballot?” he paused.
In his own words, the lawmaker linked to the soon-to-be-launched People Renaissance Movement (PRM) party went on:
“Do not just send the young people to the streets and, when they come to the ballot, leave them alone. I was in Ol Kalou with Timothy as an example that this party belongs to the young people.”
Timothy finished fifth with 51 votes in the race won by Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), a rapidly growing social-democratic political party led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who won the seat with a landslide 35,440 votes.
Timothy Kariuki Kamau causes a stir in Ol Kalou
Samuel Muchina Nyaga of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) came second with 5,450 votes.
“In Ol Kalou, while on campaign, our message was clear: a win for Wantam is our collective win. We won in Ol Kalou, and we celebrate together with the DCP candidate. Kenya needs a renaissance!” MP Amisi further said.
Running under the PRM ticket, Timothy drew widespread attention and social media buzz on voting day. He notably arrived at the Kieni Primary School polling station riding on a donkey, which he stated he had relied on as his primary vehicle throughout his grassroots campaign.
The seat fell vacant following the passing of former Ol Kalou Member of Parliament (MP) David Kiaraho.
