A promise made, a promise kept.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stepped in where many fans felt let down by securing 500 tickets for diehard supporters ahead of Harambee Stars’ crucial CHAN 2025 clash against Angola at Kasarani.
In a spirited show of patriotism and football love, Kalonzo fulfilled his Sunday pledge, ensuring fans don’t just cheer from behind screens.
The tickets were handed over to the Kenya Football Fans Federation, with Senator Shakila Abdalla and Executive Director Benson Milai representing the party at the handover to Federation President Francis Liyobi.
“Tushabikie #HarambeeStars!” Kalonzo posted, affirming his support and encouraging Kenyans to fill the stadium with energy.
But while fans are gearing up for the Angola match, another storm is brewing.
Kalonzo took to social media again, questioning why the upcoming Kenya vs. Morocco fixture set for August 10 was reportedly “sold out” well in advance. He hinted at possible foul play, suggesting ticket access may be intentionally limited.
“We’ll do our best to ensure fans get match-day tickets,” he assured, also pledging support for the Zambia match on August 13.
Ticket access has become the CHAN tournament’s biggest headache. From the opening match against the DRC, to this weekend’s game, fans have been locked out in droves. Frustrations mount online, but stadium limitations are partly to blame.
Nicholas Musonye, chair of the CHAN Local Organising Committee, tried to explain.
“Kasarani’s new certified maximum capacity is 48,000 not 66,000 as many assume. And even then, we only sell up to 90% of that for safety reasons,” he said.
The CHAN tournament, jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, kicked off on August 2. It has reignited football fever across the region, but logistical challenges are threatening to dim the experience.
Still, thanks to Kalonzo’s timely intervention, at least 500 fans will roar from the stands on match day.
