The Ministry of Defence in Kenya has announced 45 permanent and pensionable job opportunities targeting civilian staff. It is looking to hire 30 garden assistants and 15 sanitary cleaners.

The gardening vacancy comes with a salary range of Ksh 19,340 to Ksh 24,470 per month, while the cleaners post offers Ksh 18,250 to Ksh 22,720 per month.
Nevertheless, both jobs provide a leave allowance of Ksh 4,000 paid once yearly, a commuter allowance of Ksh 3,000, and a house allowance that depends on an employee’s area of deployment.
The ministry has directed interested applicants to make applications by completing one application form PSC (Revised 2016) and submit the same together with copies of required certificates.
How to apply and requirements
The form may be downloaded from the Public Service Commission website www.publicservice.go.ke.
Completed application forms should reach the Principal Secretary’s office-Ministry of Defence, P.O. Box 40668-00100, Nairobi or hand delivered to Ulinzi House gate off Lenana Road, on or before January 20, 2026.
Applicants can also apply online through the commission’s website www.public.service.go.ke or www.psckjobs.go.ke
Regarding requirements, applicants interested in the garden assistant job must have a mean grade of D+ (plus) in KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education) examination results or its equivalent qualification.
On the other hand, candidates interested in the sanitary cleaners vacancy must have a mean grade of D (plain) in KCSE or its equivalent qualification and a certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
Applicants already in public service can also apply for the jobs.
Responsibilities of gardeners and cleaners
Those hired to the garden assistant position will be expected to complete different work relating to gardening in the ministry’s units, State House, and lodges.
The cleaners vacancy is an entry-level position, and those hired will undertake sanitary cleaning in the area of deployment, perform messengerial duties, and do any other related duties.
However, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and qualified persons of any gender, race, culture, religion, marital status, or disability can apply to the 45 advertised positions.
The government of Kenya has in recent weeks advertised many job opportunities in the public sector even as the country struggles with a high unemployment rate. The additional vacancies at Ministry of Defence provide an extra avenue for individuals to get employed.
The permanent and pensionable terms are an attractive offer for many, as they provide job security and financial stability.
