A routine patrol by officers attached to Muthangari Police Station turned into a major drug bust on Thursday evening after a suspect was found with eight kilograms of what is believed to be cannabis sativa in Dagoretti, Nairobi.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation unfolded after a vigilant member of the public tipped off the officers about a suspicious man loitering near Gatina Primary School’s main gate in Kawangware 56.
The individual was reportedly carrying two pieces of luggage that aroused suspicion.

Responding swiftly, the officers intercepted the suspect at the location. A search of the bags confirmed their fears. Inside was a large consignment of narcotics weighing approximately 8kg.
The man was immediately arrested and escorted to Muthangari Police Station, where he was booked into custody.
Police said the exhibits have since been processed and forwarded to the government chemist for forensic analysis.
The suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
In a statement, the NPS reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the war on drugs and urged the public to continue working closely with security agencies.
“The National Police Service remains steadfast in the fight against narcotics and appreciates the cooperation from the public,” read part of the statement.
The arrest highlights both the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking in urban neighborhoods and the critical role of community vigilance in curbing the menace.
