Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju arrived in
London United Kingdom on Thursday night for specialized treatment, following president
Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive.

This came after he was moved from from Karen Hospital’s
intensive care unit (ICU) to the general ward.

Tuju was involved in an accident on February 12, on his way
to the burial of former President Daniel Arap Moi at his home in Kabarak,
Nakuru County.

He was taken to Kijabe hospital and later airlifted to Karen
Hospital in Nairobi where he has been under ICU.

Jubilee Party Communications Director Albert Memusi, said on
Thursday that the SG condition had improved, assuring the public that Tuju was
in a better condition and had been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to
the General ward.

“This was after the specialist observed tremendous
improvement over the past few days,” said Mr. Memusi.

A source close to Tuju’s family said the decision to airlift
him to London was reached at after a wide consultation with the doctors.

Jubilee party rift

“We can confirm that he was moved from the ICU. Doctors gave
him a clean bill of health to be flown out of the country. He will now seek
medication from a hospital in UK,” said the source.

His absence has caused rifts in the ruling party. It was
expected that his deputy, Caled Kositany who is also the Soy MP would assume
the roles of his boss until he is back. That was not however the case.

President Kenyatta directed Executive Director James Waweru
among other directors to take charge.

“All party activities at the secretariat continue to run
uninterrupted through the able leadership of the executive director assisted by
the directors,” read a part of the statement from the party chairman.

MPs allied to Deputy President Ruto read politics in the new
twist. Mr. Kositany is one of key allies who have thrown their political weight
behind Ruto.

Efforts by the MPs calling for the Deputy Secretary General
to take over until Tuju recovers have not yet born fruits.
