Central Trade Unions KOTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said that President Uhuru Kenyatta means well for the future of this country.

Speaking during an interview at Citizen TV on Wednesday night, Atwoli said that he has high hopes that the president will leave Kenya at a better place.

“I have high hopes that Uhuru will leave this country at a better place than he found it.” said the SG.

He added that what makes the president to lack behind his agenda is his cabinet and advisory.

“Uhuru has no advisers, he has nobody who understands local and international issues.” said Atwoli.

Atwoli was referring to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport strike by workers which paralyzed normalcy at the port.

2022 ambitions

The SG lashed at Transport Secretary James Macharia for referring to the workers strike as illegal.

“CS Macharia does not know how to handle industrial issues. He has exihibited a lot of ignorance in dealing with the JKIA strike issue.” he said.

Asked how he thinks of Deputy President William Ruto’s political future, Atwoli said Ruto is a good politician but his advisers and supporters can ran him down.

“Ruto is a shrewd politician. He is articulate with issues and can be our president but he lacks good advisers.” said the SG.

He added that Ruto’s supporters have no respect to the president and that could be a hiccup to his political ambitions.

“The head of state is like your father. Respect him just like you respect your father, else you will be a loser.”

Corruption

Atwoli said DP’s supporters have no respect for the head of state.

“If you have supporters who can dare the president of state then you cannot make it, those are the people who will run Ruto down.” he said.

He added that for the country to progress, leaders should decease from “our man” syndrome and serve Kenyans since no one is a refugee in the country.

The Secretary General further said corruption in Kenya has turned out to be stealing, where leaders borrow funds in the name of developments but end up stealing the same money.

“People should differentiate between stealing and corruption. Corruption is when you give money in favour of something, while stealing is what we are seeing taking place in Kenya today, taking public funds illegally.”

Atwoli was refering to the Sh 21 billion Arror and Kamwarer dam scandal in Elgeyo Marakwet, which has seen Treasury CS Henry Rotich grilled for two days at the DCI head quaters.
