The authority’s platform beat multiple entries from across the African continent, clinching the top position in the Innovative Management Award category, cementing its place in the region.

Out of 49 submissions across Africa, only six finalists showcased their initiatives targeting to transform public service delivery.

The theme for this year’s conference was “Agile Public Administration: Partnership and Digital Transformation for Citizen-centric Service Delivery.

The event aimed to recognise organisations and individuals making significant strides in efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the public administration sector.

Recognizing excellence

Addressing the participants, the AAPAM President, Dr John Nakabago, acknowledged the important role public administrators play in streamlining the public sector service delivery.

Nakabago encouraged them to embrace innovation and citizen feedback to drive continuous improvement.

The Principal Secretary of the State Department for Cabinet Affairs, Dr Idris Dokota, was among the high-ranking government officials who joined the KPA team to celebrate its victory. T

What the award means for  the Authority

The prestigious award underscores KPA’s unwavering commitment to innovation as a cornerstone of efficiency in port operations. It also reflects the Authority’s broader vision of building a resilient, efficient, and customer-focused organisation.

KARGOPAY was launched in July 2023. It is a user-friendly payment system and one of the key notable innovations that has created seamless port operational efficiency in streamlining the cargo clearance processes.

How KARGOPAY Works

KARGOPAY is an automated tool that enables customers to access funds in their bank accounts electronically 24/7, facilitating prompt payment of port charges.

Since its rollout in 2023, it has made it possible for transit market customers to settle port charges in their respective local currencies through the platform.

Customers can also make payments using mobile money transfers and card payments.

Following its launch, KARGOPAY was praised for being an innovative product that seeks to improve port operations and enhance efficiency for customers, governments in the region, and other stakeholders in the sector.

The award is a valuable asset as the Kenyan government strives to digitise payment systems in various sectors to ensure transparency and efficiency.
