With
COVID-19 pandemic shaking and bringing to a standstill many sectors of economy,
entertainment too has not been spared, as the government insists on social distancing,
cancelling all gatherings including parties.

The closure
of clubs and other social joints to avoid crowding has not stopped the party
creators and movers from entertaining the public.

The internet
has since become a ‘Dundaing’ section with many DJs and artists now opting to
keep their fans entertained via various social media platforms, including Instagram
and Facebook.

Here, they
enjoy a huge following –connecting and keeping up with their fans and bring
entertainment at the comfort of their homes.

Meet Ian
Hamza Salim alias DJ Cobra, who on Friday took on his Facebook account to
entertain his followers on the online party dapped Online Party with DJ Cobra
with MC CI Kenya from 9pm- 2am. He says the experience was well.

“Many DJs
across the country have had it and I had mine on Friday which was awesome, the
reception was good than I expected.” Said DJ Cobra.

As the public
heed to the government call of staying at home, a number of party lovers have
opted the online way –though quite expensive, but the monotony breaker during
this tough time.

“With clubs
remaining closed and Kenyans staying at home, the online reception is being
received well. I have just been in the industry for 5 years and going live with
more than 2000 followers was quite breathtaking that I didn’t expect,” He
added.

The online
scene has brought out hidden talented entertainers to the rescue of Kenyans –which
the country has not known before

DJ Cobra
says this is a wake-up call to the big wigs in the industry, as netizens
jokingly say that “hawakuagi wakali ni vile tunakuaga tumelewa.”

“Everything
comes with its merits and demerits. Since the ban, many talents have emerged
that were not seen before. It has also given artistes an opportunity to showcase
what they can do best that was not yet revealed,” he said.

“We hope and
pray that things get better soon so that we resume. I urge Kenyans and my fans
to keep safe, stay at home and pray. This is a trying moment but we shall
overcome,” said DJ Cobra.

As COVID-19
cases continue to rise in the country, with the current tally standing at 158,
the government has issued stiffer measures including secession of movement in
and out of four affected counties of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale.

President
Uhuru Kenyatta said on Monday that the government will caution local artistes
with a sum of Kshs.100 million, to keep entertaining the public during the
Coronavirus pandemic.
