A number of tourists and local residents are yet to be rescued
following Wednesday night heavy rains that brook banks along River Talek, causing
floods that have submerged Mara Lodge, in Narok County.
More than ten lodges and camps including Mara Leisure Camp,
Base Camp, Mara Acacia, Azure lodge, Olesaiki, River Side, Tipilikwani Camp, crocodile
and Mara Eden have been isolated by floods.
Properties in the lodge including beds, tents, computers and
documents were submerged and others swept away.
This is not the first time for rain floods to wreak havoc in
the region, which is a major tourist center in Narok County and the entire
country.
In 2015, heavy rainfall set off flash floods Talek Village Narok
South, killing three people, including two primary school pupils.
Reports shows that everything was brought to a standstill
for more than three hours in the area adjacent to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve,
an area common for tour visits.
More than 300 sheep, goats and 16 cows belonging to
villagers were swept away in the floods.
