TRANS NZOIA, Kenya – Outspoken Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has taken a jab at leaders who he claims are riding on the ‘Tuko Kadi’ campaign to score political mileage ahead of the August 10, 2027, general election.
‘Tuko Kadi’ is a Kenyan Gen Z slang phrase and online movement that expresses relatable, often humorous or sarcastic takes on everyday life. It’s not tied to any political figure but reflects youth culture, internet humour, and shared experiences.

“Please, guys, #TukoKadi is a #GenZ initiative. Keep off! Support the movement, but do not take advantage of them,” said the youthful MP.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator further stated that the June 25, 2024, Finance Bill revolution was hijacked by broad-based sympathisers and politicians, making the journey to ‘Canaan’ longer than expected.
Later, musicians, artists, showbiz celebrities, TikTokers, and paid bloggers – and some unscrupulous civil society personalities – commercialised the agenda, making money while youths were abducted, disappeared, and killed,” added Amisi.
The phrase ‘Tuko Kadi’ gained massive traction on TikTok in early 2026, where users post photos and videos of their voter registration cards and statuses.
“Please allow the Gen Z generation to undertake the cardinal duty of their lifetime: fight for economic emancipation, economic recovery, and economic renaissance. If you cannot support them genuinely, at least stop taking advantage of their hashtags and initiatives for personal aggrandisement or to rekindle your dwindling brand publicity. Kenya needs a renaissance!” added the vocal MP, currently serving his second term
Rigathi Gachagua takes on President Ruto over ‘Niko Kadi’ slang
During a political event in Githunguri, Kiambu County, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, former Deputy President and current Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua publicly denounced President William Ruto, a former ally, for using the ‘Niko kadi’ slang.
In a direct message to the president, Gachagua told the gathering that despite Ruto’s claims to have the political card, it is actually a red card that will indicate his departure from the State House in the general election of 2027.
“Nimeona Kasongo akijaribu kuhijack hiyo slogan ya Gen Z, Niko Kadi. Kasongo, wacha nikuambie, wewe uko na kadi lakini yako ni red card. Red card, ya kwenda nyumbani. Tumekupatia red card. Na red card utaenda nyumbani. Ata ukifanya nini, ata ukilete nyota, ata ulete mwezi, ama ulete jua, utakuwa one term,” Gachagua said.
During his four-day development tour in Nyanza, President Ruto had previously used the term to indicate that he was prepared for the general elections of 2027. He sided with the youth-led ‘Niko Kadi’ campaign, which urges first-time voters to register and take part in the forthcoming elections, while addressing supporters.
“Na mimi nataka kuwaambia tuko tayari na tuko kadi kama manataka hiyo hiyo; kadi tayari. We are ready for you when the time comes,” Ruto said.
How the ‘Linda Mwananchi’ faction plans to mobilise Kenyans
However, speaking separately on the Thee Alfa House podcast, Amisi insisted that his opposition political faction, dubbed ‘Linda Mwananchi,’ was prepared to remove President Ruto from power.
“There is nothing else. It is just to make a prestructure, to mobilise Kenyans, and to mobilise young people. Politics is all about mobilisation, and sometimes a country is brought down by a gullible nation,” he said.
Amisi observed that good or bad leaders are not elected by bad citizens; bad leaders are elected by good citizens who do not vote.
“So, we want to mobilise those good citizens so that if the bad citizens become the majority, then we are going to remain with the same bad leaders,” Amisi added.
The lawmaker emphasised that the objective of the ‘Linda Mwananchi’ faction is to mobilise the good citizens to come out in large numbers.
“First, to register as voters. Secondly, to be ready to attend political rallies; thirdly, to contribute to those campaign rallies so that they know they are part and parcel of the movement,” explained the MP.
