What began as a joke on social media has turned into an inspiring story of resilience and possibility for many young people facing hardship.

Denis Kipkemoi, a 23-year-old student from Chepseon in Kipkelion East Constituency who is known for his youthful appearance, has captured public attention across Kericho County and beyond after meeting President William Ruto alongside other United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party aspirants.
His sudden rise from obscurity to political ambition has made him a symbol of hope for those who dare to dream despite humble beginnings.
Popularly known by his moniker Ming’in Buuch meaning small but able, Denis is currently pursuing his studies at Kimasian Technical College in Kedowa.
He has now declared his intention to vie for the Kedowa/Kimugul Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat on a UDA ticket, a bold step that has further elevated his profile and sparked widespread discussion online.
The beginning of Denis’ fame
Denis first came into the public spotlight last year when a video of him appealing for an opportunity to meet Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot for a simple handshake went viral.
At the time, many viewed him with sympathy, while others dismissed him. However, what seemed like a moment of ridicule would later become the foundation of his transformation.
Following the viral moment, Denis joined a group of local comedians, where his natural humour and authenticity quickly won the hearts of many.
His popularity spread rapidly across social media platforms, earning him recognition as one of the emerging digital personalities in the region.
In December last year, his growing influence was formally recognised when he received a cash award during the Kalenjin Music Awards, sponsored by Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, where he was honoured among rising social media influencers.
His journey has also been supported by well-wishers, including social media philanthropists Regen Kip and Mzungu Mwafrika, who organised an online fundraiser that enabled him to purchase a piece of land.
The initiative came after revelations that Denis was raised in a struggling family without a permanent home.

Denis meets President Ruto
A month ago, Denis once again went viral after publicly expressing his desire to meet President Ruto for a personal conversation.
That dream was eventually realised at State House, a moment he describes as both overwhelming and unforgettable.
In a light-hearted interview after the meeting, Denis humorously declared that he now prefers to be called “Mwesh”, short for Mheshimiwa , meaning honourable, a title commonly associated with elected leaders.
“It was a sweating moment,” he said with a smile. “All the English I had planned to speak disappeared when I met the President.”
Kericho nominated MCA Dorah Keino has been among those mentoring and supporting Denis, accompanying him to public functions and introducing him to influential leaders.
“God is for everyone. I am so proud of him. We are going far. This is just the beginning,” she wrote on social media after Denis met the President.
Speaking at State House, President Ruto encouraged young people to pursue their ambitions boldly rather than waiting for opportunities.
“Young people must step forward and pursue their dreams. Our party and government provide an equal platform for everyone who believes in themselves,” the President said.
Denis’s journey from being pitied and mocked online to being embraced by leaders and declaring political ambitions is a powerful reminder that circumstances do not define destiny.
His story continues to inspire many young people across the country, proving that even the smallest beginnings can lead to unexpected and transformative opportunities.
