As Kenyans brace themselves for the curfew directive starting
today Friday March 27 from 7pm to 5am, the Ministry of Health and the Inspector
General have urged Kenyans to stay home to help in curbing the spread of the
Coronavirus.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe has explained
that the curfew was necessitated by the fact that Kenyans were not adhering to
social distancing, adding that citizens were keeping the distance during the
day and disregarding it at night.

Kagwe also revealed that no new positive case of Covid-19 has
been confirmed in Kenya. According the Ministry of Health, a total of 752
people have been tested for the virus. The country has 31 confirmed cases so
far, with of the infected succumbing at Agha Khan Hospital while one Kenyan and
a French are in ICU.

The CS further revealed that 21 cases of Coronavirus are in
Nairobi with 6 in Kilifi. He added that the infected person in Malindi came
into contact with 122 people while the priest in Siaya has 138 identified
contacts. One of the 21 Nairobi cases is from Embakasi. The other affected
counties are Kajiado and Mombasa.

Besides, this Sunday, the government plans to embark on mass
testing of 2000 people under mandatory quarantine in selected government
facilities according to their arrival date.

On the other hand, the Inspector General said the curfew is
in effect until further notice, and anyone caught in violation of the directive
will be arrested and charged in court. There will be no movement of motor
vehicles during curfew and essential service providers exempt from the curfew
should have identification cards.

For night shift employees, the IG explained that they should
report to work before 7pm.
